Manson Anchors, a leading manufacturer of anchors for pleasure boats, super yachts and commercial vessels, is introducing the new Hiding Anchor at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show – Y&B Tent, Booth 639.
The Manson Hiding Anchor was developed to act as a flush-fitting pocket anchor with the option of a polished closing plate, as well as an under hull deployed submarine anchor. As a submarine anchor, it was designed to actively withstand corrosion, and can be fabricated in either SAF2205 or 316L stainless steel, with all underwater components meticulously mirror-polished. Like all Manson Anchors, the Hiding Anchor is also available in galvanized steel.
Key features and benefits include:
Inwardly tapered flukes are narrower than the flat base, giving the Hiding Anchor the ideal shape for smooth entry into the pocket.
The Hiding Anchor can be deployed via a wetbox from the base of the hull and herewith enhance the clean look on the hull.
Hull locking plates ensure that the anchor is subbed to the same location each time.
A skin on the base of the anchor matches the curvature of the hull to guarantee laminar flow.
The concave fluke design, also used in the award-winning Manson Supreme Anchor, offers enhanced holding power.
A pair of 430 kg Hiding Anchors was first used as submarine anchors on the recently launched 192ft luxury sailing yacht KOKOMO III by Alloy Yachts. Alloy Yachts placed both anchors longitudinally underwater, in line with the centerline of the hull.
Due to space restrictions and a particularly narrow bow on superyacht Kokomo III, the Manson Plough Anchors that Alloy Yachts had frequently used were not suitable and an under hull deployment system was required. This can also be the case when the anchors can conflict with bobstays during anchoring.
The Manson Hiding Anchor was initially designed to meet Alloy Yachts’ requirements, as well as Lloyd’s Register’s construction and holding power requirements. Seabed testing of a scale model was first made before final tug testing of a full-size version confirmed the anchor’s capability as High Holding Power (HHP).
The Hiding Anchor can also be used in a traditional motor yacht pocket so that only the mirror polished base plate is visible once the anchor has been stowed.
Like all Manson Anchors, the Hiding Anchor is class-approved from 50-4300 kg. All anchors are built in New Zealand in Manson’s purpose-built anchor factory.
