Israel’s Transportation Ministry has unveiled plans for a third marina to be built in that city. Tel Aviv Port, which has been closed to boats for 45 years, should have a luxury marina able to accommodate 100 pleasurecraft in two years.
According to the plan, the harbour will be dredged, a new breakwater will be constructed, and new docks will be built. Boats up to 10m (32ft) will be in slips, while larger yachts will anchor outside the marina.
Developers Otzar Mifalei Yam and Atarim unveiled a plan to turn the port into a recreational area about a decade ago. Since then, 60 businesses, including restaurants, boutiques, and other tourist-related ventures have opened.
Itamar Shimoni, CEO of Atarim told the paper it is time for a new marina in the city. “There is no room at the Tel Aviv marina, and the marina in Herzliya is overcrowded,” he said. “The Tel Aviv Port with its recreation area is ideal for a luxurious marina, and the potential is definitely there.”
Minister Katz said a new marina would attract foreign yachtsmen to the area.
