Marine Hydraulic Solutions (MHS) officially opened its doors just four months ago, in mid January 2014, and they have already expanded the team twice. The company has been working on some of the finest yacht projects in the industry, including the J Class superyacht Velsheda.
MHS, situated in STP Shipyard in Palma, has this winter been involved on a major project on the J Class sailing yacht Velsheda, assisting in the installation of a complete new hydraulic system requiring all the valve blocks and every hydraulic hose onboard to be replaced. This upgrade of the hydraulic system will provide more winch speed on deck during regattas allowing sails to be hoisted and trimmed quicker during regattas.
Since beginning work on luxury yacht Velsheda, the team have also started working with charter yacht Endeavour and reigning Superyacht Cup champion, superyacht Hanuman.
Luxury yacht Endeavour is one of the original J Class yachts. Having been sold for scrap and the victim of several failed restoration attempts, her survival is a wonderful tale of a labour of love, with a happy ending. MHS are proud to be involved with her going into the Med race season. They have been replacing solid piping with flexible hoses to allow easier servicing and access to other machinery.
The most recent to come into the yard and choose MHS as their hydraulic services team are Royal Huisman built yacht Hanuman. Hanuman is a replica of Endeavour II that was originally built to challenge charter yacht Ranger in the Americas Cup. She was launched Holland in March 2009. MHS has been providing ongoing hydraulics assistance onboard.
MHS is headed up by Steve Branagh of RSB Rigging Solutions.
Steve states: “We are very happy with the way the business is going. The standard of work being carried out and dedication from our technicians is second to none. Working on three J Class yachts in the first months of operation is fantastic and we are looking forward to the Superyacht Cup in Palma where we will see 5 of these stunning J’s on the start line at which point I guess we’ll also see what a difference all these winter modifications have made to each of the boats.”
MHS provides a complete hydraulic and pneumatic service from routine servicing of hydraulic systems, testing, analysis, parts sourcing and replacement to system design, modification and installation.
