Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) is delighted to announce the launch of its ‘Maritime Creativity Lab’ initiative, which has been created in order to respond to the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He called to adopt the ‘Government Creativity Lab’ experiment as a standardized practice to develop government services as well as strenghten government administrative performance.
Set to go into effect in early 2015, the ‘Maritime Creativity Lab’ provides a smart and interactive platform to boost communication among public and private entities, decision makers, industry experts, and maritime specialists, through face-to-face meetings under the umbrella of DMCA. These meetings will be held to discuss major industry topics and emerging challenges on the maritime sector as well as establishing effective strategies to overcome obstacles, thereby positioning Dubai among top leading maritime hubs of the world.
The ‘Maritime Creativity Lab’ based on latest advanced modes, smart communication networks and digital technologies such as tablets and smart screens. It is also providing an online portal and a set of mobile applications along with private accounts on social media networks to guarantee a favorable climate for drawing out creative ideas that would help develop a renewed and secure maritime sector in line with the highest standards of sustainability and excellence.

Sultan Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation and President of Dubai Maritime City Authority, said: “The ‘Maritime Creativity Lab’ initiative is part of our commitment to support government’s efforts aimed at consolidating the culture of creative thinking and encouraging brainstorming while opening new channels for knowledge exchange and promoting team spirit and integration. It is poised to enhance performance, safety and competitiveness of the local maritime sector to reinforce Dubai’s leading position as a first-class global maritime hub.”

The ‘Maritime Creativity Lab’ will include wise and interactive meetings and brainstorming sessions with the leading local maritime experts as well as regional and international professionals to discuss key subjects related to improvement of operational efficiency, environment protection and strategic planning,” Bin Sulayem added.
The initiative complements the vision and objectives of Dubai’s Maritime Sector Strategy (MSS) which aims at strengthening Dubai’s position as a key competitor across the top-class global maritime landscape. It focuses on the regulation, development and promotion of all aspects of the local maritime cluster to create an integrated environment that will enhance the industry’s contributions to support the local economy.
MSS is based on three main pillars as follows:
Regulation of the Maritime Sector:
Regulating the maritime sector involves developing of maritime regulations and legislations at par with the rapidly emerging regional and international changes, while enhancing the marine infrastructure, and improving competitiveness of human resources on international bases. It also offers a wide range of integrated services in areas of insurance, finance, supply, law, brokerage, operation, maintenance and employment to meet customer needs and requirements under the highest international standards of quality.
Development of the Maritime Sector:
The aim of developing the maritime sector is to create a sustainable, safe and integrated maritime environment that is able to provide smart marine product that will compete on a larger international scale while effectively addressing market changes and emerging trends to achieve customer satisfaction. In doing so, it will attract leading players from across the region and worldwide to invest in the promising growth opportunities across the maritime sector in Dubai.
Promotion of the Maritime Sector:
