MDL Marinas has announced the arrival of a new weather expert to deliver the daily forecasts for all of its UK marinas.
Dr. Simon Keeling – a self-confessed weather anorak since he was nine years old – has over 20 years experience in the weather industry and is an expert in forecasting for sailors around the UK. A regular columnist in the yachting press, Simon has previously presented weather forecasts on many TV networks, including BBC and GMTV.
Simon is now populating weather reports at all 19 of MDL’s UK marinas three times a day, providing boaters with essential updates on the latest conditions, including wind speed and direction, wave depth, visibility and temperature.
As well as providing regular forecasts, Simon will also be offering personalised forecasts for MDL berth holders, as well as running exclusive Weather Schools – giving berth holders the opportunity to learn some top tricks of the trade.
A familiar face for sailors, Simon often delivers expert lectures at London and Southampton Boat Shows and is a well-known contributor to many boating titles. He runs the successful Sailing Weather Information Service (SWIS), alongside popular Weather Schools around the UK.
Simon is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society with a PhD in Meteorology, and has also written several weather books, including The Sailor’s Book of the Weather, GRIB for Sailors and The Pocket Weather Forecaster.
Michelle Hitchcock, Head of Business Development at MDL Marinas, said: “We are delighted to welcome Simon on board. With his incredible knowledge and experience of forecasting for the sailing community his predictions are a valuable resource at our marinas.
“As a yachtsperson it’s important to receive up-to-date and accurate weather information, especially wind speed and direction. The five day report makes planning a weekend trip easy, as you can run down a column for all the elements and easily spot when the best day or time may be for a journey.”
Simon commented: “It’s great that MDL is leading the way by providing this new weather service for its customers and understands the importance of giving access to regular, accurate and easy to read forecasts, as well as offering berth holders the opportunity to find out more about weather forecasting.
“I’m looking forward to meeting more berth holders and marina teams at the Weather Schools later this year.”
