First Stop will be Tahiti, then on to Fort Lauderdale. After almost three years of construction, the 45 meter Luxury Expedition Yacht Big Fish quietly slipped her ways in the Auckland Harbor Viaduct on June 28 and pointed her bows toward her first destination of Papeete in the Society Islands.
Big Fish megayacht is the first in a series of rugged but luxurious world cruiisers from Aquos Yachts. The second vessel in the series, a 50 meter, six-stateroom version code-named mega yacht Star Fish, is under construction at McMullen & Wing Shipyard in Auckland for a 2012 delivery. The plans for the newest member of the Aquos Yachts line will be presented aboard Big Fish during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in late October of this year.
The cruising plans for the mega yacht Big Fish are a reflection of her design and construction as a go-anywhere yacht. Making the best use of her steel hull and 10,000-mile range, she is planning a one-year circumnavigation via both poles, which will take her down the western coast of South America to Patagonia and the Antarctic Peninsula, where she will be available for fly-in, fly-out charters in January and February, From the Antarctic, yacht Big Fish will cruise north into the Upper Amazon Basin, where she will offer charter guests the opportunity to see the region’s remarkable wildlife and experience rarely-visited indigenous cultures.
Perhaps the most adventurous aspect of the circumnavigation will be the first-ever yacht crossing of the Northeaast Passage, over the top of Russia, which will take place in September of 2011. This will truly be a voyage of discovery, as the megayacht Big Fish will be accompanied by scientists and film crews to document several of the most pristine areas and archipelagos remaining on earth. With her full complement of SeaKeeper 1000 ocean/weather/climate monitoring equipment, expedition yacht Big Fish will make an invaluable contribution to better understanding our rapidly changing planet.
