The 5th St. Marina in Miami, USA has expanded by renovating an adjacent shipping yard and now includes 6 deepwater berths for Mega-Yachts, superyachts or Commercial vessels of 100ft+. At the new facility, Captains can choose to obtain shipside services themselves or procure services from contractors already operating at the Marina.
The 5th St. Marina is located on the lower Miami River and is already a popular location for recreational boaters looking for marine repairs. The Marina currently includes a boatyard, marine electronics store, and engine shop. The expanded facility doubles the amount of river frontage and acreage and will include MTSA regulations, the security required by the Coast Guard to receive certain foreign flagged vessels.
Orin Black, General Manager of the 5th St. Marina explains, “We have some of Miami’s best marine contractors servicing vessels in the 30-90’ range. We had an underutilized adjacent shipping terminal. The renovation gives opportunities for our recreational tenants to expand and diversify into the 100+ market.” The Marina currently includes Norseman Shipbuilding, Langer/Krell Marine Electronics, and South Shore Marine Diesel.
The 5th St. Marina is unique in that it provides a safe inland location from South Florida’s summer storms and yet is also only 1 mile from Miami’s Brickell District, close enough for Captains and Crew staying for a while to enjoy Miami’s diverse nightlife. “In the last two years there have been a lot of new restaurants and night spots sprout up in Downtown. Crews have a lot of free time when their ship is at port. With other places, there are not a lot of things nearby to do. Miami offers a lot of culture and energy.”
The Army Corp recently completed an $89 million dollar maintenance dredging of the Miami River bringing the channel depths to 15ft at low tide.
