MML have successfully supported the recently completed refit on the outstanding 88-metre explorer mega yacht ARCTIC P. The major 7-month refit of luxury motor yacht ARCTIC P started in October 2014, and was performed at the Navantia Shipyard in Cartagena, Spain.
The works on the 88m expedition yacht ARCTIC P included a complete refit of the bridge, engine control room and galley, the installation of new, and significantly more fuel-efficient propellers, as well as a major overhaul of the vessel’s beach club. That comprised the installation of a swimming pool, jacuzzi and a dining table. When not in use, the pool, jacuzzi and dining table create a flush deck so the beach club presents a clean flat teak deck, allowing it to be used as a huge entertaining area.
By touching selected buttons, the glass bottom of the pool and teak bottom of the jacuzzi sink into the deck and the spaces then fill with water. On the other side of the beach club, the dining table rises from the deck in two sections; a smaller round section to which a further section can be added to result in a large oval table and which allows for the accommodation of varying dinner party sizes. The whole deck conversion can be completed in less than five minutes.
With young children often aboard superyacht ARCTIC P as guests, safety is a key concern of the owner. MML created a removable railing, the latest in a series of technical innovations, which separates the jacuzzi and pool area from the rest of the deck space when in use. With the pool and jacuzzi in the flush-to-deck, stowed position the railings can be completely removed to re-establish a clear deck space.
”Working in partnership with Arctic P’s captain and crew over the years has enabled MML to fully understand their specific requirements for each refit or period in maintenance. We can then do our utmost – through careful planning, preparation and negotiation – to ensure all work is completed to a high standard with minimum impact on the yacht’s cruising schedule whilst striving to achieve best value for money for their comprehensive work packages,” comments Matt Liddell, MML technical manager.
MML’s support of the refit is part of an ongoing relationship between ARCTIC P yacht and the company, which began in 2008.
