Destined for Russian clients, largely involved in the complete process, the well known Dutch builder Moonen Shipyards has finished the Moonen 82 Alu fast displacement superyacht My Way. Delivered exactly as scheduled, motor yacht My Way comfortably surpassed her specified speed of 25 knots at her recent sea trials.
“My Way also performed superbly in terms of stability and her low noise levels,” reports the owner, who travelled over from Russia especially for the trials. “There was a remarkable feeling of safety at all speeds and in all conditions.”
The owner of the new Moonen 82 Alu luxury yacht My Way had previously owned a GRP motoryacht and his experiences had convinced him that speed was nothing without comfort. He approached Moonen to commission a “fast displacement” yacht at the same time as the yard was developing a new range of aluminium vessels called the Alu-series, the first of which was the Moonen 94 Alu motor yacht Nilo.
“We were greatly impressed with the flexibility of the yard and its designers,” remembers the owner. “My Way is a fine classic example of customisation. The original platform for the Moonen 82 Alu specified a top speed of 21 knots but I requested 25 knots and the design was altered accordingly. At the same time she has all the comfort of a displacement yacht – going fast is no fun if it is uncomfortable – and an incredible range of 2000 miles on fuel tanks of in total 10,000 litres. This is quite exceptional for a boat of this volume.”
The owner and his wife thoroughly enjoying the entire process of building the superior 25.20-metre motor yacht My Way. “Each time we came to Holland it felt like a mini-holiday. The yard personnel were very friendly and it has been like being part of one big family who are all equally committed to building a great boat. Sometimes we had a question after returning home from one of our visits to Moonen and these were always answered very efficiently. With excellent communication like this, the distance between Holland and Russia really did not matter at all.”
“The day My Way was launched was very special indeed,” continues the owner’s wife who was intrinsically involved in every aspect of the interior design and styling in conjunction with Art-Line. “As the interior took shape it was hugely impressive to see the quality of the finishing. The Moonen craftsmen did a wonderful job on creating a warm and cosy onboard atmosphere with lots of cherry wood panelling and beautiful upholstery. Moreover, thanks to the technical specialists at the yard and their experienced co-makers, we have been able to ensure My Way benefits from the very latest technical details. All cabins have direct access to the Internet, for example, and all televisions are connected to the global network, offering the opportunity to listen to music and watch movies without using DVD/CD players.
“In the main lounge we installed an interactive mirror that spans the entire wall of the dining area. This allows guests sitting at the table with their backs to the entrance to enjoy a fine reflection of the interior. At the press of the button, however, the mirror can be transformed into a TV, a digital picture or a map of our current route. This is just one of many examples of how we have been able to tailor My Way to our way of living. And Moonen has done so while staying within the delivery schedule. Keeping promises is important to us and Moonen clearly shares this attribute. All in all, this project has been great fun.”
