Ferretti Group of Italy presented three new yacht models at the recently held 36th Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes: the flagship superyacht Ferretti 960, the Ferretti 750 yacht and the Pershing 62′, each boasting new features worth noting.
MOTOR YACHT PERSHING 62′
The Pershing 62’ yacht is the result of collaboration of designer Fulvio De Simoni and AYTD [Advanced Yacht Technology & Design] the Group’s research centre. At the heart of this model are the engines that give the yacht’s their legendary speed, perhaps fitting for a boat named after the highly successful Pershing missile [although with a speed of Mach 8, the Pershing missile which was phased out in 1991 was somewhat faster!].
The motoryacht Pershing 62’ follows the top selling Pershing 64’ of which more than 1200 have been sold, most of them sold in the United States but more and more in APAC.
Pershing Brand Manager Marco Blicchi, on board the sea trial boat, described the yacht as having “silver blood.” The Pershing 62’ is painted in a special dark silver, as distinct from the standard grey and silver of other Pershings. The yacht starts at €2 million.
The Pershing comes with two versions, a double MTU 10V 2000 M84 with 1381 mhp or two MTUs 10V 2000 M93 with a power of 1524 mhp. Marco Lrnrre explained the “washing machine” the power from such engines generate around the Pershing, should anyone be below decks and see the torrent of water passing by the porthole at a frightening velocity. The model also has a functional launching and storage system for the tender, until now only available on the larger brand models.
On the main deck Ferretti retains its famous retractable window by Besenzioni in the main salon, creating a wide open space for guests. Paltrona Frau seats feature in the pilot house. Colours throughout the Pershing 62’ are those strongly associated with this model, ebony, grey oak or an opaque white. White leather abounds.
FERRETTI 960 SUPERYACHT
The flagship luxury yacht Ferretti 960’s sea trial at Cannes demonstrated the smooth acceleration to a top speed of 31 knots [cruising speed 27 knots] powered by two MTU 16V M94 2638 mph engines in the choppy Mediterranean seas. There are two other alternatives, the standard version MTU 16V 2000 M84 2218 mhp [27.5 knots max, 24 knots cruising] and the MTU 16V M93 2435 mpg. The ARG [anti rolling gyro] system is standard. Its effectiveness could be felt during the choppy waters of the sea trial. Inside, bare or stocking feet sink into pure silk carpet, a feature found on few other yachts.
The Ferretti 960 yacht is the Group’s first planning yacht with the master cabin forward on the main deck and as many as four guest cabins. Externally, the yacht also sets a new trend in large planning yachts with glazing running along the entire main deck, making for a much lighter profile.
A major innovation is in the aft area where the swimming platform has a convenient mobile section, making it easier to launch and haul the tender, the seabob and other items stored in the garage. On the main deck the large open space salon is divided into living and dining areas, although on the demonstration model the Malaysian owner had stipulated changing this into a more open space for karaoke, something not uncommon in Asian owners. The master cabin is very quiet thanks to some soundproofing bulwarks that divide it from the galley. The galley, located forward to portside, has three different accessways. The Ferretti 960 starts at €7.3 million.
FERRETTI 750 YACHT
The Ferretti 750 yacht is an evolution of the popular Ferretti 720 brand. Giving the yacht versatility, particularly when it comes to Asian climatic conditions, is the ability to install a Bimini top on the upper deck to keep out the tropical rain. Easier tender haulage comes from a wide, electronically-hydraulically operated swimming platform that can be lowered almost half a metre below the waterline.
The salon is particularly inviting. It features a large L-shaped sofa, a coffee table featuring a glass top by Omnidecor; a large table by Cantori and six “Martha G” model chairs with steel frames. The lower deck has four cabins, all ensuite. Optional configurations are available on the yacht. For example the galley, pilot station and dinette can be separated from the salon and dining area and access via a sliding glazed door. Alternatively it can be opened towards the bow and the stern, turning the main deck into a large open space.
The motor yacht Ferretti 750 is available in two engine configurations, two MTU 10V 2000 M84 1381 mhp engines, or two MTU 10V 2000 M93 1524 engines. The first capable of 30 knots [cruising 27 knots] and the second 32.5 knots [29 knots]. The Ferretti 750 is priced around €3 million, depending on configuration.
Overall Ferretti has strived to make design changes in these new models, much in keeping with its own Group “Sea Different” strategy—to look for change in the world and act accordingly. The “shape” of its yachts reflects its evolution of a brand architecture the group is confident will help it meet the demands of a new strata of customers—particularly from Asia Pacific.
