MTN Satellite Communications (MTN) announced today after successful sea trials of yacht ECLIPSE that it is the chosen VSAT services provider for the 557-foot superyacht Eclipse, the world’s largest yacht. The global service company provides communications, connectivity, and content services to remote locations around the world, with its partners Jetstream and e3 Systems to superyachts.
“We chose MTN for its robust global satellite network, guaranteed bandwidth and high quality of service,” said a general manager for Blue Ocean Yacht Management (BOYM), the company managing Eclipse. “The MTN connectivity was fast and reliable, and enabled the yard, contractors, and owners’ representatives to send reports, access remote files, and enjoy television via The Jetstream®,” he added.
In addition to the famous motor yacht Eclipse, the BOYM-managed fleet under the same owner also includes Luna, Umbra, Pelorus, and Sussurro. Four of the vessels will be equipped with C- and Ku-band antennas using DirectNet, a dedicated bandwidth service with guaranteed committed information rates (CIR’s) of 2 Mbps with burstability up to 3 Mbps to support Internet, voice and data services, online trading, and IPTV using The Jetstream media hosting solution.
“The Jetstream is the first IP-based full service solution designed specifically for superyachts,” said Will Faimatea, founder and director of Bond Technical Management, developer of The Jetstream. “Your media services are available to you on any computer with a reliable satellite Internet connection, anytime, anywhere.”
“Our world-class customers deserve world-class infrastructure and services,” said Derik Wagner, managing director of yacht services, MTN. “They rely on our guaranteed CIR’s, superior customer support, and reliable, private global network to support their business and entertainment needs wherever their yachting takes them.”
e3 Systems, MTN’s largest and Master Maritime Service Partner (MMSP) since 2005, will install and support the VSAT systems and services.
“MTN is our chosen VSAT provider due to their guaranteed bandwidth, seamless global C- and Ku-band coverage, and the high level of service that they provide,” said Roger Horner, group managing director of e3 Systems.
Join MTN and e3 Systems at the 2010 Superyacht Cup Palma in Spain. MTN will be co-sponsoring the themed evening event on June 24, 2010. Over 20 superyachts, 600 participants, and 1,000 owners, crew, guests, and industry representatives are expected to attend.
