Started in Avigliana in October 2009, and ended in Livorno in November 2013, the procedure for the ‘BS OHSAS 18001’ certification has involved eleven different sites, all belonging to the prominent Italian luxury yacht builder, Azimut|Benetti Group. On December 2, 2013, RINA Technical Committee for Safety authorized the new OHSAS 18001:2007 certificate release for Livorno’s site, thereby stating the implementation, together with the applicable laws, of an accurate control system regarding the workers’ Health and Security.
This last step brings to eleven the number of Group’s detachments to have obtained such a qualification, thus making Azimut|Benetti the first and unique yacht builder in the world to have gained a multi-site certification.
With this achievement Azimut|Benetti is once more focusing on social responsibility, strongly believing that workers’ health and safety represent an essential requirement and therefore any action taken to support employees is not to be seen as a burden but as a relevant investment.
Such investments have to be aimed at creating a company’s culture extremely focused on health and safety, according to the idea that “only the ones who have a culture of safety can built safe yachts”.
Over 21.000 hours training were necessary to obtain the certification , going through active technical training during which all the possible risks have been considered and evaluated, procedures have been elaborated on how to manage health’s surveillance, machinery and equipment maintenance, emergency reaction, distribution and use of personal safety devices.
More than 800 contractors went this way, all involved in the yachts’ building process at some point, mainly located in the area around Benetti shipyards in Viareggio and Livorno, with the final goal to create a technology hub, knowing that only with a real team work between the group and its partners, the Health and Environment values can be truly pursued.
Since the earliest stages of the design process in fact, the Azimut|Benetti yachts respect the highest safety and environmental procedures such as the usage of eco products and materials, as well as the correct waste disposal.
Such certificate not only vouch for a constant attention towards the attendant’s safety, but also guarantee the effectiveness and efficiency of a process that brings a significant reduction in the number of accidents (-80%), with positive influence on the business effectiveness, improving not only the relationship within the company, but also the associates morale and motivation.
