Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been chosen to supply the bridge navigation systems for two new superyachts currently in build at the Perini Navi shipyards in Viareggio and La Spezia.
The orders for the integrated bridge systems were awarded to Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit through Telemar Yachting, who is Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine’s authorized sales and service representative for the yacht market in Italy Telemar Yachting is responsible for designing, installing, integrating and commissioning the bridge electronics for the two Perini Navi superyachts.
The yachts to be fitted with the bridge navigation systems are the 56m superyacht Melek, which was launched in July by Perini Navi. Superyacht Melek is a 56 m ketch rigged yacht which was designed by Ron Holland and built from aluminium. The second yacht is Perini Navis’ new 55m steel-hull Motor yacht Picchiotti-Vitruvius Explorer series scheduled for delivery in summer 2011. The 55m superyacht is the second Picchiotti- Vitruvius sold by the Perini NaviGroup, built according to ABS Ice-Class standards and plans to make the passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean through the Arctic archipelago of Canada.
“The new megayachts are being fitted with VisionMaster FT™ TotalWatch™ multifunction workstations, integrating the electronic charting system, radars, autopilot, heading and speed sensors in an Ethernet navigation network,” said J. Nolasco DaCunha, vice president, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine.

The Italian yacht builder Perini Navi is a world leader in the construction of luxury superyachts. Sailing yacht Melek is the 50th vessel the company has launched to date.
