Momentum is gaining in the luxury yachting industry for more renewable energy to power newly-built craft, and over the summer season, the two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso had the opportunity to test the capabilities of a SUNREEF 80 ECO sail catamaran yacht Marie-Joseph during his summer holiday to Mykonos, Greece.
Following his experience, he went on to commission a 60 SUNREEF POWER ECO motor catamaran, which is currently under construction in Gdansk, Poland. The custom vessel will be equipped with electric engines and Sunreef’s patented photovoltaic system.
“Sunreef Yachts was an easy choice for me,” the F1 champion commented at the Cannes Yachting Festival during the shipyard’s press conference. “They combine luxury and sustainability like no other shipyard. When I visited their facility in Poland, I saw first-hand how all the details are taken care of. This is what luxury eco yachting should be about.”
The standard 60 SUNREEF POWER ECO has a length of 18.3m/60ft and a beam of 10.7m/35.1ft. The layout has room for up to 12 guests while cruising, with accommodation consisting of 1 Master suite and 5 further guest cabins. The crew accommodation is placed in the bow, and the galley is situated in the central guest entertaining area for convenience.
Sunbeds are spread across the foredeck and flybridge aft, both locations also offering alfresco dining and lounging options. The main deck aft cockpit has an alternative alfresco dining option with bar, plus a sunbed. There is easy access to the sea via the two stairways of the hydraulic swim platform.
The 60 SUNREEF POWER ECO is a chance for busy Owners to get away from hectic schedules and take time for some comfort and relaxation free from pollution, noise and vibrations that many older yachts still create.
