This year’s Monaco Yacht Show saw the well known Italian builder, Palumbo Shipyard, launch the newest “Sport Hybrid” line by Columbus Yacht brand. Introducing hybrid technology to the shipping industry, the main characteristics of this new yacht line are “sophisticated, unique, friend of nature”.

Reduction in energy consumption, environmental pollution and noise pollution are key aspects of this new line, entirely of aluminium and literally “sown together” by the best local artisans. The yachts will be completed using this technology, from 25 meters to 65 meters. They will be equipped with Siemens Ecoprop Hybrid, an electric propulsion system that allows navigation with a reduction in consumption and a near absence of noise (at this time there is also a 40 meter one under construction in this line).
The 3,800 horsepower motors by MTU and hull – designed by Sergio Cutolo of Hydro Tech and achieved in collaboration with the Palumbo Shipyard technical office – allows a maximum speed of 22 knots to be reached. Futhermore, the electric hybrid propeller at 60 kW per axle allows a velocity of 7.5 knots, which until now can be estimated of consuming only 30 liters/hr.
An entire series of yachts between 25 meters and 65 meters, which was presented in the Salle Empire of the Hotel de Paris during the 2012 Monaco Yacht Show, unites the excellence of the shipbuilding world, with that of yachting, finance and jewelry. This new series of Sport Hybrid confirms the Palumbo Groups philosophy of creating yachts dedicated to “style, elegance and avant-garde technology”, but most of all to “full respect for the environment”.

Besides the Sport Hybrid line, there is also a 55 meter and 65 meter under construction in steel aluminium with a full displacement hull.
