Nestled in the popular Mediterranean yacht charter destination – Spain, the fabulous Marina Lanzarote, managed by Calero Marinas, has been announced as departure host to the fleet of the Panerai Transat Classique 2015. Yachts preparing to participate in this amazing transatlantic race will be able to enjoy a new, comfortable and vibrant marine facility, positioned right in the capital of the beautiful volcanic Canary Island of Lanzarote.

Marina Lanzarote is Calero Marinas’ third and most ambitious project, providing a tremendously important nautical centre for the island’s capital Arrecife and a vibrant marine destination for this strategic location in the Canaries

Leaving on the 7th January, next year, this almost 3000-mile long race is the pinnacle of the classic yacht racing series and currently the only transatlantic event of its kind dedicated exclusively to classic yachts. Owners speak of the purest kind of delight forged from the pleasure of sailing a real distance on board these magnificent vessels and the fulfilling sense of accomplishment, competing with crew as a skilled and offshore racing team.

A number of participants will be returning to the race after having competed in previous editions and the line-up of yachts having expressed an interest is impressive. With the larger proportion of the fleet travelling down from the Mediterranean where many of the Panerai series events are held, these boats will be looking to secure a place in Lanzarote this autumn, ahead of the race.

Along with a new 820 tonne hoist, a splendid new yard in Marina Lanzarote is also home to shipwright “Maestro Tito”; a mainstay of the island’s long-standing tradition of boat-building dating from the late 18th century.

These innate skills and years of experience will serve the Panerai Transat Classique fleet well in the event that work is required. Calero Marinas boatyard staff and resident team of specialists of riggers, sailmakers, machinists and mechanics amongst other skills will help ensure that participants have everything they need.

The preparation week from the 1st to the 7th January will give the fleet a taste of Lanzarote hospitality and an introduction to the island’s famous geography and culture. Participating yachts will be berthed together in Marina Lanzarote during this week, promising quite a sight.
