The Italian design studio, Pannone Architetti, introduces its latest mega yacht GEMINI. Motor Yacht GEMINI is a 60m luxury concept characterised by elegance and harmonious proportions, created by architect Alessandro Pannone of Pannone Architetti, who talks about his latest project:
“What drives us to design a yacht? This simple but profound question leads us to investigate our desire to sail; to experience the sea in any weather, leads us to imagine the perfect trip that we want to live at least once in our lives. The question “Why draw a yacht?” To me is equivalent to the question “Why sailing?””
“Men have always sailed driven by the need to explore and discover new lands, seek new ways, meeting new cultures, supporting inner and primordial need of adventure, and to always push ourself beyond the limits of our knowledge.”
“This irrepressible and primary need is connected to the need ‘to think and build new vessels.”
“For me as an Italian architect, the Mediterranean Sea has always been the centre of the world and a primary source of inspiration for new solutions designed to tackle better and better navigation. The development of emerging countries and thus the increase of new sea routes, does not fundamentally alter my vision, centred on the concept that the Mare Nostrum will always be the umbilicus of the vital culture of design and boat building.”
“I believe my thinking is parallel to the architectural discipline that I have given, to me they are one. Architecture and yacht design in appearance only indicate different products, but the methods of design and conception of the work of sculptural art are the same.”
“The luxury yacht project Gemini 60m, was born like most of my projects, almost straight, with a pencil sketch on a sheet of paper, full of notes of other projects. Then to clean the lines and draw a precise identity it took me months …”
“I believe, in yacht design, it is essential to know how to draw by hand, because the development of the lines, especially in the exterior design, the fluidity of the lines, is fundamental. Another essential aspect is the sense of proportion. Learn to draw freehand you get used to using the eye as an infallible measuring instrument. Computers help us, but they are only a refined technical tool. Creativity is the mature fruit of ideas, skills and human sensibilities.”
“Gemini 60 m superyacht, is a yacht that is characterised by the elegance of form and harmonic proportions between the parties. The central idea was to design a yacht boasting classic lines that would last over time, but at the same time I wanted Gemini to to be characterised by a contemporary look. The almost straight bow and the superstructure with some dark elements make this product look very aggressive. A yacht of 60m steel and aluminium, with almost straight forward, classic colours and landing strip for helicopter, Gemini is suitable for an owner who wants to reach his yacht at any time.”
“On the deck at the bow, I expected a technical area, followed by a first Spa Pool with sundeck and a sofa. With a view of 180 degrees, one of the two owner cabins is located here. The second cabin is found on the lower deck. I like to call both ‘owner’s cabins’ because they are equivalent as far as comfort and finishes go. Other pools have been places in the aft cockpit with panoramic glass and on the upper deck near the helipad. The stern, as well as being a tender garage can be set up as a relaxation area. Once the tender is launched onto the water, this area becomes a terrace, overlooking the sea. The second tender garage can be found forward opening sideways.”
“When the bow is opened it creates a sequence of five terraces fitted with maximum comfort. The first at water level, the second on the main deck, the third on the upper deck, the fourth with swimming pool and helicopter, and the last on the sundeck.”
“The main idea of the project was based on the desire to imagine a yacht elegant and harmonious, which had all possible facilities to date on a yacht of 60m on board.”
“For me the target was to create a synthesis of an aggressive exterior design, with classic and rational organisation of the interior, but at the same time be able to meet the needs of the owner. Key points that characterise the interior, are the two master cabins, one of them situated on the main deck in the bow. Being located on the upper deck, with a full beam width and terraces that open, the second stateroom offers superb views to her guests. Both cabins are equipped with massage room, gym with sauna and en suite bathrooms. these choices for the interior were made in order to enable owner to be able to accommodate very important people on board, or to turn the 60m Gemini yacht into a charter yacht. For me, the sum of all these design choices must merge into a single concept, that communicates harmony and beauty of yacht design made in Italy.”
“Ultimately, I consider Gemini 60m yacht as a synthesis of my concept of navigation, a technological challenge thrown to the sea, yet with deep respect and a sense of the Mediterranean seafaring tradition.”
