During this year’s Le Nautic boat show in Paris, the partnership agreement was signed between Marina Rubicon in Lanzarote, Canary Isles, and the Iles de Soleil Rally, organised by GPO. The Marina Rubicon will host the RIDS fleet coming from Madeira.
Situated at the south of Lanzarote (the furthest east of the seven Canary Isles), the Marina Rubicon is a part of the tourist village of Playa Blanca with its magnificent beaches, its choice of first-rate hotels and a setting which has retained all the charm of a Canary fishing village. 70 miles from the African coast and 620 miles from Gibraltar, this marina has all the services necessary for arrival in the Canary territorial waters.
Other advantages are an international airport just thirty minutes’ drive away, and only five minutes from the boats’ moorings to the centre of Playa Blanca, for the ferries to the isle of Fuertaventura.
This partnership agreement signed between GPO and Marina Rubicon will allow the organisation and the participants in the Iles de Soleil Rally 2013 to take advantage of moorings in port, help with all the administrative requirements for anchorage permits at Graciosa and discounts in shops, supermarkets and on-the-spot technical services.
It should be borne in mind that after their arrival and few days spent in Marina Rubicon, the RIDS 2013 participants will be able to sail freely around the Canarian Archipelago, before meeting up in Tenerife, from where they will set off on the voyage to Cape Verde and the island of Sal.
