This year is very special for the prominent UK shipyard Pendennis as it celebrates 25 years in the superyacht build as well as refit industry.
Pendennis Shipyard Ltd was born out of a local yacht building company which was acquired by Peter de Savary and then relocated to Falmouth Docks in 1988. Pendennis’ first contract in 1988 was to build the 125′ sailing yacht La Cattiva (project Taramber), followed by a major refit of the 228′ three-masted mega yacht Adix. A management buy-out in 1993 saw the current Managing Directors, Mike Carr and Henk Wiekens, take the helm.
Over the years Pendennis has delivered over 30 New Builds including luxury yacht Steel, superyacht Adela, catamaran yacht Hemisphere, charter yacht Nostromo and Christopher yacht. Adela has been a regular visitor to the yard since her build in 1995, and Pendennis is delighted with her recent win at the Superyacht Challenge in Antigua. The refit side of the business has completed over 200 projects most recently delivering the major rebuild of motor yacht A2 (ex. Masquerade of Sole), and in 2011 the refit business expanded to Palma.
Throughout 2013 Pendennis will be organising numerous events to celebrate and will keep everyone updated with its plans. The company will also be posting historic photos and video footage to its Facebook and YouTube pages which will provide a fascinating insight into the changes in the yard and to superyacht building since 1988.
