The well-known Italian yacht builder, Perini Navi has announced the completion of the technical launch and mast stepping operations of the striking sailing yacht SYBARIS. The 70-metre aluminium ketch represents the latest and most important evolution by Perini Navi, when it comes to innovation and building excellence. She was constructed in collaboration between the shipyard’s in-house team of naval architects and engineers and the famed French designer Philippe Briand.
Her Sealium alloy hull boasts a centreboard keel with a variable draft of 4,5 metres to 11,46 metres for excellent sailing performance as well as allowing access to shallower waters. Her modern superstructure boasts an 18-metre flybridge – the largest of any sailing yacht currently cruising our waters. At 850 gross tonnes, SYBARIS has spacious interior areas with plenty of natural light, an innovative layout and decor solutions. Her sophisticated interior was designed by PH Designs and represents the Miami-based studio’s first yacht project.
SYBARIS features numerous cutting-edge technologies when it comes to sail handling and electric power management. The powerful sail plan of more than 2,300 square metres relies on two carbon fibre masts supplied by Rondal in Holland with composite stays Kevlar running rigging. Controlled by Perini’s latest generation of electric winches and software, the system allows the yacht to be sailed entirely from the cockpit consoles.
SYBARIS also boasts innovations when it comes to her power management. She is fitted with two variable speed generators providing electrical power via a DC bus to the vessel’s main electrical grid with the potential to store excess power in lithium polymer batteries. The system improves efficiency, reduces emissions and offers a silent anchor mode at night or in protected areas with the generators switched off.
The yacht is now getting ready for an intensive season of tests and trials, with the delivery due this summer. May the 7th will see the La Spezia shipyard celebrate the construction of this special vessel, claimed to be the largest sailing yacht ever built in Italy.
