PHILEAS, the new line of 35m steel and aluminium Expedition Yachts designed by A.Vallicelli & C. Yacht Design, was proudly presented by Italian shipyard Cantiere Navale Cerri during the 2015 Miami Yacht & Brokerage Show, marking the beginning of the shipyard’s new era. The all-new line was named after Phileas Fogg, the main character of Jules Verne’s “Around the World in Eighty Days”.
“The sea is everything. It covers seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides. The sea is only the embodiment of a supernatural and wonderful existence. It is nothing but love and emotion; it is the Living Infinite.” ― Jules Verne, Around the World in Eighty Days.
Through Phileas the Carrara-based shipyard, which specialises in the construction of high-performing fibreglass yachts, has chosen to explore new production segments and diversify its offer, to effectively meet the needs of an increasingly demanding market. Relying on the experience and expertise of its new Management in the construction of steel and aluminium and all-aluminium crafts, Cerri has started the production of a new line of highly flexible and performing Explorer Yachts ranging between 30 and 35 metres in length, which are ideal for long-range cruising and to experience freedom and contact with sea and nature to the fullest.
Interior light is ensured by the large windows allowing to enjoy a magnificent view over the sea from across the entire yacht. Moreover, thanks to a total range of 4,000 miles and the capacious black water and grey water tanks (6,000 litres), this is the perfect yacht for anyone wishing to cruise long and far from ports or marinas.
Sober lines, modularity and versatility are the key features of the Phileas yacht project, pencilled by A. Vallicelli & C. Yacht Design. The hull, in turn, was developed by Cerri’s Technical Department.
The straight sides of the yacht make it easily customisable to the most diverse needs of the Owners, who can choose a 3-, 4- or 5-cabin layout, arranging the cabins depending on their specific needs and requirements. Great care has also been devoted to the comfort of the crew, who have available spacious crew quarters including a large crew mess, a laundry area, and 2 cabins, while the captain’s cabin is located on the upper deck, behind the wheelhouse. The linear layout and lines of the yacht make maintenance extremely easy, as all equipment and systems are promptly accessible for inspection and repair.
A large number of optional solutions and accessories is available, including – among other things – the possibility to have the yacht in the Ice Class or to install hybrid engines.
The Phileas superyacht comes with 2 MTU 8v engines that push it to a cruising speed of 12 knots and a maximum speed of 14 knots.
“We are really excited about this new project and, more in general, about the new course that Cerri has embarked upon – comments Cerri’s CEO Diego Michele Deprati. – Our objective is to offer a highly versatile and innovative product. Phileas is joining the niche segment of Explorer Yachts, but its limited size and essential lines make it truly unique. Even its name -Phileas- evokes (at least among those who still remember classical literature) a world of explorations and long voyages, adventure and life at sea: and this is exactly the philosophy that drove us, together with architect Vallicelli, towards this impressively charming project”.
