JFA Yachts has released the first pictures of the second Long Island 85′ sailing catamaran NDS EVOLUTION at sea, a vessel with a planned circumnavigation to both poles.
The range of Long Island catamarans was designed by Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group and both Long Island 85′ hulls have been constructed from an aluminium hull and composite superstructure.
To reduce the weight on board advanced lightweight materials were used for fitting out the interiors and teak decking was sparingly used for only the flybridge, the cockpit and the foredeck in front of the Master suite to produce a weight of just 56GT. A carbon mast and boom further reduce the weight and ensure excellent performance while cruising.
The design provides guests with excellent balance between indoor and outdoor recreational areas that connect with the natural environment: The interior salon places a bar and lounge to starboard and a dining room on the port side with the navigation deck forward and blending the two spaces. Styled by Darnet Design, the shared and private guest areas are styled in oak and contrasting walnut.
Outside, the aft cockpit places an alfresco dining area on the port side, a lounge starboard and sun pads on either side. The foredeck connects to the forward Master suite and the two sizeable trampolines will be a favourite place to play and sunbathe with children and adults alike. Up, on the flybridge, the area has plenty of seating and sun pads behind the helm station. Both the cockpit and the flybridge can be completely enclosed and heated for guests to observe the beautiful landscapes of the poles.
A large trunk mounted on the rear platform stores mountain bikes and diving gear, and there is additional room on board for a large range of water toys for all ages.
For accommodation, three layouts are available for the Long Island 85′:
- 3 x guest cabins and 1 x office
- 4 x guest cabins
- 5 x guest cabins
The Master suite is situated forward for excellent natural lighting and views, a corner sofa and private access to the foredeck. The port hull contains the Master en-suite bathroom as well as a three-bunk children’s cabin and a double guest cabin aft. The starboard hull forward section is dedicated to the crew accommodation and facilities, including a mess, Captain’s cabin and double cabin. A double guest cabin is placed to the aft, completing the accommodation arrangement.
In terms of her technical aspects, S/Y NDS EVOLUTION comes equipped with a pair of 380 HP engines and two 27kW generators while the onboard navigation, communication and AV equipment are state-of-the-art for long periods on board.
