Organisers are looking to repeat the outstanding success of the 17th annual Asia Superyacht Rendezvous Cup (19th-21st January) and have begun planning for next year’s event in the luscious Mai Khao Bay in Phuket, Thailand.
The 2019 even will be a weekend of events for owners, guests, captains and crew, with parties and races in pursuit of the third annual ASR Cup Trophy.
S/Y APHRODITE went home from this year’s event having won the ASR Cup for the second time. The cocktail party was held aboard S/Y LA NUMERO UNO and proved a huge success, with the former bar manager from the Savoy Hotel sharing stories and creating a phenomenal cocktail.
“As the Cup is gathering momentum, thanks to owners enjoyment in sailing against other like-minded sailors, I highly recommend owners and captains get their entries in early for the 2019 ‘ASR Cup’ as we will have more yachts next year, and we’re limited to the number of superyachts and guests,” event organiser Gordon Fernandes commented.
“It’s wonderful to see crews argue about ‘who built the best model yacht’. Of course, the star of the event is the superyacht
sailing races and as always – it was breathtakingly thrilling to be part of this event.” Planning is underway for a special ‘Owner’s Dinner’ after the first day of racing in 2019.
Thailand has seen a boost to its superyacht industry with the recent development of cutting edge marinas that designed to cater to small and large vessels alike. The Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea are two particularly popular destinations, with the latter destination growing in popularity for charter holidays that incorporate the incredible coastline of Myanmar (Burma).
