Huge savings to be made at Porto San Rocco Marina, on the coast of Italy, now selling duty free fuel to all vessels leaving the EU within eight hours of fuelling.
Located in the Bay of Muggia, within the Gulf of Trieste, the position of Porto San Rocco in the northern Adriatic makes it the perfect base for cruising the Dalmatian coast of Croatia. In June 2010 the marina has been granted permission to sell duty free fuel to all leisure craft and as Porto San Rocco is only 15 miles north east of Croatia, this leaves plenty of time to leave the EU within the eight hour time limit.
Roberto Sponza, Marina Director of Porto San Rocco said “This new ruling is fantastic news for all yachts passing through this area of the Adriatic. There are great savings to be made on fuel now – an average of €0.5 per litre. For fuelling a superyacht or large pleasure motor boat the savings could amount to hundreds of Euros. We are in the perfect location for cruisers to not only fuel up but have a beautiful stay in a fabulous marina en route – experience the beauty of Trieste.”
With Trieste’s airport just 45 minutes’ drive, it is a brilliant spot to pick up guests who wish to explore the Gulf of Trieste and the local attractions in Italy as well as going on to Croatia. Porto San Rocco is the hub of an active international racing scene, with regular grand-prix sailing events based at the marina. This along with the duty free fuel makes Porto San Rocco the perfect spot for charter yachts to be berthed long term or on a seasonal or visitor basis and a great place for race yachts to be for specific events or for the whole summer season.
All pleasure vessels are entitled to make use of the tax free fuel service as long as they carry their registration details and logbook for stamping.
