This year marks the 10th anniversary of the prestigious Italian superyacht builder, Sanlorenzo. The shipyard was originally established by Giovanni Jannetti in Viareggio in 1958, and acquired by Massimo Perotti in 2005. Perotti followed the founder and reopened a new production site and a new division in Viareggio, specializing in the construction of superyachts in metal, in addition to the existing Ameglia shipyard.
“In a flourishing industry like the large motoryacht one – said Massimo Perotti – but also subservient to the logic of large numbers and the industrialization of the product, I was directed to Giovanni Jannetti’s brand as one of the last, authentic expressions of exclusivity, a separate world that I do not hesitate to call atelier of Made in Italy yachts. It was the exact dimension I was looking for, elitist and exquisitely crafted.”
Since 2005, the shipyard has seen an amazing unprecedented growth all over the world, with focus on the construction of always-unique yachts, all tailored to meet the needs and desires of every single owner. In the first 10 years, the company has presented 11 new exciting yacht models, full of innovation and cutting-edge solutions, but always defined by the Sanlorenzo style.
Sanlorenzo has launched its semi displacement hull range in composite material, with three units:
– 27m SD 92 (example is charter yacht Lady Victoria)
– 33m SD 112 (example can be superyacht ‘O’)
– 38m SD 126 Yacht
The yard has innovated its traditional flying-bridge range of planing hull motoryachts:
– 23m SL 76 – a new model to be launched in 2016
– 26m SL 86 – a new model to be launched in 2015
– 28m SL 96
– 32m SL 106 – winner of the Italian Innovation ADI Award in 2011, handed over by the past President of Italian Republic Mr. Giorgio Napolitano in Quirinale Palace
– 37m SL 118 (example is motor yacht H1)
The year 2007 saw Sanlorenzo enter the metal superyacht segment. Since then, the company has delivered the first 40 Alloy (example can be superyacht Liliya) – a striking 40m vessel with an aluminium hull and superstructure, reaching a top speed of 27 knots and equipped with the innovative terraces, a cutting-edge solution, then adopted by many yards. A total number of 9 units have been sold so far.
Sanlorenzo has also launched its first 46m displacement hull in steel, superyacht 46Steel, of which 7 units have been sold, and started the building of the 52 Steel yacht, a 52m vessel in steel which will hit the water in 2016. Moreover, the company has entered the explorer yacht market with superyacht Exp 460, a 42m vessel which will be launched in July 2015 and will be displayed as world premiere at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show.
In the recent decade, Sanlorenzo has collaborated with various main players of Italian design, such as Rodolfo Dordoni, who designed layout and interiors of the first SL 106 yacht, Antonio Citterio who designed the interior of superyacht SD 112, as well as Flavio Albanese, responsible for the interiors of the Exp 460 yacht.
In the past ten years, Massimo Perotti has also introduced environment as another essential and particular value for Sanlorenzo, marked by the certification UNI EN ISO 14001, certifying the achievement of better control of environmental impacts associated with the activities, products and services of the company.
Today, Sanlorenzo represents one of the most prestigious superyacht builders in the world. The company places second in the world ranking of the world largest manufacturers of +80’ (24m) yachts, annually released by the Global Order Book of the US magazine Showboats International.
