Last July saw the prominent UK-based luxury yacht shipyard Princess Yachts International host families of employees for the 2012 Princess Yachts Family Fun Day. Thanks to this event, the company raised much needed funds for four local charities – St. Luke’s Hospice Plymouth, Jeremiah’s Journey, The Primrose Foundation as well as The Woodside Animal Welfare Trust.
Guests were given the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at Princess’ six manufacturing sites, which for the first time included the new superyacht facility at South Yard, and participate in a number of fund raising activities thought the day.
Employees were given the opportunity to nominate local charities to benefit from the fundraising efforts leading up to and on the day. The charities selected were St Luke’s Hospice, which provides specialist palliative medical and nursing care to thousands of terminally ill patients each year from Plymouth, South West Devon and East Cornwall, the Primrose Foundation, which supports the Breast Care Centre at Derriford Hospital to provide quick, comprehensive diagnosis and specialist treatment and care for sufferers, Jeremiah’s Journey, a Plymouth based charity offering support and information to children and their families when someone close to them has died, and the Woodside Animal Welfare Trust, which works to rehome pets and offers a sanctuary to unwanted animals as well as supporting owners and the community to protect animal wellbeing.
The day began guests with a tour of the various Princess factories to see first hand the craftsmanship and technology involved in producing every Princess yacht. The main events of the day were then held at the Company’s head office site where a number of attractions and fund raising activities were held throughout the afternoon including boat trips, live music and dance performances, basketball Plymouth Raiders team mascot, face painting and much more.
Chris Gates, Managing Director of Princess Yachts, commented. “The recent ‘Family Fun Day’at the factory was a huge success and we are delighted to be able to benefit some of our local charities in this way. St. Luke’s is a charity dear to many of us at Princess as they have provided wonderful care and support to several people from our company and their families over the past 30 years but we felt it was also important that the Princess team were given an opportunity to elect some of the many other worthy causes important to them and Jeremiah’s Journey, The Primrose Foundation and The Woodside Animal Welfare Trust are all very deserving of this support.”
He continued. “I am also very proud in the way the day was embraced by the whole company and the generosity of everyone. We had the support of many local organisations and I would especially like to thank many of our suppliers who were particularly generous in their support of the day”.
The final figure raised was an incredible £50,000 which is being split equally between the four charities and the company would like to express special thanks to Annixter, Audi UK,Blackburns, CAT, Ginsters, Lang & Potter, Lloyds TSB, Monks & Crane, MTU, Nuffield Health, Plymouth Raiders, Samsung, Scott Bader, Volvo and Western Electrical for their contributions and support no the day.
