Karpaz Gate Marina is the first marina in Cyprus to have achieved the Gold Anchor status. This beautiful superyacht marina was honoured with the prominent 5 Gold Anchor rating, following an assessment by The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA).
The luxury 300-berth marina in Northern Cyprus sailed through the rigorous appraisal process to seal the highest accolade available and join an elite group of marinas across the world with only the most superior facilities and service.
Managed by the Sea-Alliance Group, the marina has benefited from the Group’s extensive experience in the requirements of yacht owners, focusing on customer service and the provision of industry-leading services both in the marina itself and shore-side.
Director of Sea-Alliance Roy Klajman said: “This is a significant milestone for Karpaz Gate Marina and we are extremely proud of our team which has produced the exceptional standards required to achieve this award. Our attention to detail and comprehensive training of everyone involved with the marina has created a blue print for other projects in the future.”
Opened in 2011 on the remote and unspoilt Karpaz Peninsula, Karpaz Gate Marina is praised in the glowing report for its ‘charming ambiance’ and ‘superb services’, while the marina staff were also lauded for their friendly and professional support.
The unique qualities of the Eastern Mediterranean location of the marina, providing a perfect base to introduce visitors and boat owners to a new cruising destination and a largely untouched region of Northern Cyprus, also featured strongly in the Gold Anchor assessment summary.
TYHA assessor Murat Tuncer described Karpaz Gate Marina as “an ideally situated base in the heart of the area – the perfect place from which the Karpaz peninsula’s pristine waters, untouched bays and deserted sandy beaches can be explored.”
He continued: “The marina is just as enticing, offering a first-class range of facilities including bars, beach club, cafés, restaurants, chandlery, yacht repairs and duty-free shopping. Inland, the delights of Northern Cyprus await. It’s a land of pine-clad mountains, quiet villages, fascinating historical towns, ancient sights and welcoming people.”
In conclusion, Tuncer added: “Manager Deniz (Akaltan, Harbour Master) and his crew were very friendly, helpful and professional. I believe that the marina with its charming ambiance and superb services deserves to have a 5 Gold Anchor rating.”
The high rating granted to Karpaz Gate Marina reflects the commitment of the staff and the meticulous attention to detail which is visible in all aspects of the marina’s facilities and customer service.
The comprehensive assessment report, which includes a ‘mystery shopper’ visit and consultation with berth-holders, highlights the impressive range of facilities, the quality of the marina staff, the excellent berthing services and the commitment to good environmental practice and safety procedures.
As part of its 5 Gold Anchor status, Karpaz Gate Marina has also achieved the internationally recognised ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) clean marinas award.
Karpaz Gate Marina Harbour Master, Deniz Akaltan, said: “We are delighted and extremely proud that we have achieved the highest level of award.
“We have invested a lot of time, work and energy to reach this high standard so that we are able to present an exemplary level of facilities and service in such a new sailing destination.
“We are delighted to now have formal recognition of our commitment to ensuring the marina provides the best facilities and service to all our visitors and berth-holders and we will continue to strive to maintain the highest standards.
“The Karpaz region of Northern Cyprus is a truly beautiful and unspoilt area, with rich cruising ground, sheltered anchorages and deserted beaches, as well as historical sites and stunning scenery inland, and we are very pleased that our marina is now providing a gateway to the region.”
The first modern superyacht marina in Northern Cyprus, Karpaz Gate Marina can cater for vessels ranging from 5 metres up to 55 metres. The finger mooring system caters for boats up to 12 metres LOA and its Mediterranean type mooring system caters for vessels from 12 metres LOA. There are alongside or stern-to mooring facilities for super yachts.
Boat maintenance facilities on site include an 18,000 sq m dry dock for refit and repairs, as well as a substantial 300-ton travel lift that is capable of lifting vessels up to 45 metres and with a beam of up 10 metres.
New for the 2013 season, Karpaz Gate Marina has opened an international beach club adjacent to the marina.
The Gold Anchor Award scheme is the trusted measure of marina excellence. It has been operating for almost 25 years and is a voluntary assessment programme which is focused on customer service and providing quality berths for the boat owner. Ratings range from one to five Gold Anchors and provide assurance of quality and credibility of the marina. Qualifying technical criteria is based on TYHA’s Code of Practice for the Construction and Operation of Marina and Yacht Harbours.
