Registration for the 2015 Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, running from June 2 to 6, will close in only three weeks, on May 3, 2015. To be attended by the world’s finest sailing superyachts, this incredible Mediterranean sailing event will once again provide four days of exhilarating racing in the azure waters of the archipelago of La Maddalena off the northern coast of the fabulous Sardinia yacht holiday location.
This year’s Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta will use the new ORCsy handicap rule, first implemented at the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta and St Barths Bucket. Tony Rey, tactician on board superyacht Marie and a participant in the Loro Piana Caribbean Superyacht Regatta, said: “This kind of racing is spectacular. The ORCsy rating couldn’t ask for a better soft launch. This event at YCCS was absolutely spectacular and the perfect way to introduce it. The fact we had a few different winners, close finishes: that’s what we want and that’s what we got.”
An amazing fleet of luxury vessels will participate in this year’s Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, including the 46m Vitters sailing yacht Ganesha, the 55m Vitters super yacht Marie, the 37m Fitzroy luxury charter yacht Moonbird and the 33m Baltic yacht WinWin. In addition, the event will feature a rich social programme. Yacht owners and crew members will gather at the Welcome Cocktail Party at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) on the eve of the regatta; all participants will enjoy a Party in the Piazza with live entertainment; the Loro Piana Owners’ Dinner on the YCCS terrace is expected to be an unforgettable night and guests will party the night away at the fantastic Phi Beach. As tradition dictates, the regatta will come to an end with the prize giving ceremony and farewell cocktails in Piazza Azzurra.
“I really love this place,” said the owner of 24 metre sloop Ivanka. “When I came here the first time I was already thinking about the next time, and just waiting, waiting, waiting… It’s the best start to the Med season – nice people, nice marina with beautiful views, very good conditions, and it’s always a pleasure for me to take part in this regatta.”
