The Italian shipbuilder Rodriguez Cantieri Navalli has intentions to combine Bahrain Government’s resources with its new shipyard. The Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) signed yesterday a memorandum of understanding with Rodriguez Cantieri Navalli to build a shipyard in Bahrain. The Italian parent, Immsi Group said the shipyard would bring a “gateway” to the GCC market.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us,” said Michele Colaninno, CEO of the Immsi Group, in a statement. “Having established three yards across Italy and a yard in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, this agreement with Bahrain, as the gateway to the Gulf and its trillion dollar market, provides a platform to diversify in to a whole new region.”
Rodriguez has launched more than 500 commercial vessels, military ships and yachts to 24 markets across the world. The agreement between the EDB and Rodriquez seeks to combine resources and relationships to further strengthen Bahrain’s position as a regional leader in the marine industry.
The memorandum was signed by a senior delegation from Bahrain on a visit to Rome to strengthen bilateral relationships between business communities and highlight opportunities for investment in that country.
“Bahrain is fast becoming a regional leader in the marine industry,” said Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al-Khalifa, CEO of the Economic Development Board (EDB), in the statement. “This agreement, with one of the most renowned, innovative and technologically-advanced international shipbuilding businesses, provides the opportunity to move the industry in Bahrain beyond commercial and operational, into marine boat manufacturing.”
