After announcing that Rosetti Superyachts SpA will use its San Vitale shipyard in Italy for constructing large custom yachts, Rosetti has unveiled details regarding its new 85m/279ft expedition support vessel concept from Tommaso Spadolini.

“This is the most ‘authentic’ yacht I’ve designed in my 40-year career,” said Italian designer Spadolini. “A fundamental part of the design process was reviewing the many commercial ships launched by Rosetti to date. These rugged, seaworthy vessels are required to operate around the clock in all weathers, and that same DNA has been integrated into the design of the 85m expedition concept.”

Rolls-Royce Marine in Norway have already developed the hull form for optimal efficiency and seaworthiness in all weather conditions, with focus placed upon ‘dry’ cruising by creating a narrow entry with a main deck 12.5m/41ft and plumb bow designed to reduce sea spray. Rolls-Royce are also responsible for her engineering package, and the initial proposal is for diesel-electric propulsion using four MTU 16V 4000 series engines as diesel generators combined with Azipull by Rolls-Royce, resulting in a maximum speed of approx 20 knots and a cruising speed of approx 15 knots.

For the interiors Spadolini has designed a concept that is ‘contemporary and comfortable, but not lavish’, however, as a superyacht with full customisation options, owners can bring aboard their own interior designers to add their personal touch.

The 85m/279ft mega yacht is the largest in the new range of concepts proposed by Rosetti Superyachts designed by Tommaso Spadolini. “I went straight to Tommaso because he has a flexible approach, which is not true of all designers,” commented Fulvio Dodich, Partner and Chairman of Rosetti Superyachts . “The result is a genuine expedition superyacht that I believe meets the aspirations of the market and the practical requirements of the shipyard.”

Two versions of the concept are available that place the helipad either amidships or aft as the client prefers. Although both designs are estimated at 2,200GT and have deck storage for large tenders, the aft helipad configuration has the practical advantage of allowing a sailing yacht to be stored amidships without impacting on helicopter operations. Furthermore, the generous salon beneath the helipad can instead be used as a dedicated hangar.

“Despite the abundance of exterior space, we arrived at a general arrangement that makes optimal use of the interior volume of the forward superstructure,” says Spadolini of the five-deck layout:

The lower deck is mostly dedicated to the crew and is comprised of a galley, crew mess and lounge plus accommodation for 12 crew. The port-side contains a tender garage where there is enough space for two tenders plus other water toys. On the starboard side, the lower deck has a massage parlour, sauna, dressing room and bathroom that connects to the generous beach club aft, designed with a gym and fold-down platforms on both sides.

The captain’s cabin is located on the main deck where there are also four double guest cabins, each with en-suite facilities.

The owner’s deck features a full-beam forward suite using an open plan layout containing His & Hers bathrooms, a walk-in-wardrobe and a private aft dining room. The upper deck is also designed for the owner’s personal use and the layout contains a private lounge with a study and access to the open foredeck with pool. There is another salon to the aft for all guests to use as a media room or a skylounge.
