Sailing Yacht MALTESE FALCON has been victorious over three days of sailing to claim the titles winner of the Corinthian Class and overall winner of the Perini Navi Cup 2018.
The seventh edition of the Perini Navi Cup was held at Yacht Club Costa Smeralda in Porto Cervo, Sardinia, and was attended by 21 race participants, improving on the 16 vessels when the last edition of the regatta took place in 2015, where S/Y MALTESE FALCON placed fifth.
The iconic 88m/288ft sailing yacht won out against 52m/171ft TAMSEN and 64m/210ft SPIRIT OF THE C’S who took second and third place respectively. Of the four competing yachts in the Cruiser Racer class, sailing yacht SILENCIO took the lead over S/Y SEAHAWK and S/Y VICTORIA A.
The first day of racing saw choppy waters and wind speeds of between 18-21 knots that proved perfect for the competitors, particularly on the downward legs. Second day racing conditions changed to a light 7 knots that challenged both fleets, however MALTESE FALCON pulled forward from second-to-last place on the starting line to reach the finishing line first in the Corinthian Class. On the final day the wind picked up to 27 knots and the course was shortened to match the conditions. MALTESE FALCON also took first place five minutes ahead of S/Y BLUSH, which was second to cross the line.
Each day ended with a spectacular social event, beginning with ‘Welcome Sundowner’ cocktails at Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. Wine-tasting was provided by Marchesi Antinori and Vhernier treated participants and spectators to a cocktail event. However, it was the Yacht Hop and on-board cocktail contest that proved the highlight of all the evenings, which was won by 40m/131ft sailing yacht PRINCIPESSA VAI VIA.
Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of Perini Navi said of the event:
“I would like to thank everyone who took part in this edition of the Perini Navi Cup. Our special thanks to the shareholders and the entire Perini Navi team who made this edition really special.”
