Wally yachts will launch their 50m sailing yacht this year. The Wally 50 sail yacht is built entirely of advanced composites with a sloop rig and will become the largest sail yacht launched by Wally in all composites as requested by the client who wanted comfort and luxury without having to give up performance.
The 50m Wally sailing yacht was designed by Tripp Design in conjunction with Wally Yachts. Her Naval architecture is by Wally and the interior is a collaboration between Wally and Wetzels Brown Partners.
The Wally 50m sailing yacht is a blue-water sloop that combines all the comforts and amenities of a megayacht with the renowned Wally performance and ease of handling. In order to increase the yachts performance she will feature a lifting keel that increases the draft from 4.2 metres to six metres when sailing, PBO rigging, and water tanks that will double as water ballasts.
As a result, the 50m Wally superyacht features a light displacement of only 230 tons – 485,017 lbs combined with the modern comforts and amenities of a luxury megayacht.
The 50m Wally yacht features a deckhouse with 360° of transparent glass providing guests with amazing panoramic views and a feeling of space when they are in the salon.
The 50m Wally sailing yacht boasts accommodation for up to ten guests in 5 cabins all located on the lower deck. The large master cabin is located aft and opens onto the vast terrace which increases the space and privacy of the owner. There are two twin cabins and two double cabins located forward and aft of the engine rooms. The yacht will also have accommodation for up to 9 permanent crew members.
The Wally 50m yacht features defining lounge areas in the forward cockpit, aft deck, fly bridge, and terrace on the sea. On deck there is a large Spa Pool tub, two hidden tender garages, a lounge/dining area for up to 16 guests, a barbeque and the navigation and helmstations.
It is estimated that in winds of eight knots the Wally 50m yacht will achieve 11 knots upwind and 14 knots reaching. In 20 knots of true wind she will increase performance to 14 upwind and 20 reaching.
The Wally 50m is propelled by a self-tacking jib for easy handling and a diesel-electric system used to improve energy management while providing a more efficient layout and reducing consumption, noise and vibration. Power for propulsion and services comes from three diesel generators. Other features of the Wally 50m are the two separate engine rooms for safety and the Wally anchor-system.
The construction of the MCA classified Wally 50m sail yacht uses the latest advanced composite technology with pre-preg carbon. The superyacht is being built at the Wally Europe facility in Fano, Italy, and the delivery is scheduled for 2011.
