Columbus Yachts, the young and successful brand owned by the Palumbo Group, has recently completed the third shed on Pier 37 in the Port of Naples, Italy. This will house the construction of the new 65m Custom Classic yacht Hull # C04. The keel of the 65m superyacht Hull # C04 is scheduled to be laid before Christmas and the building is due to be completed in 2015.
The shed is built to optimize the painting and interior outfitting activities which will be equipped with a high-tech smoke and dust control extraction plant. The 65m megayacht Hull # C04 will be launched from the new shed on the shipyard’s 1500 ton floating dry-dock which, together with a 6000 ton dry-dock, is also available for refit work.
The impressive 65-metre yacht Hull # C04 is the third project on Columbus Yachts’ order book after the sale of the very successful 54m Custom Classic yacht Prima, sold out of the 2011 Monaco Yacht Show.
In the wake of MY Prima’s success due to the design, quality of construction and the competitive pricing, Columbus Yachts received orders for a 55m Custom Classic and for the innovative, environmentally friendly 40m Custom Sport Hybrid respectively scheduled for completion in 2013 and 2014.
As part of its growth strategy, Palumbo, a ship conversion and repair business that has been operating since 1967, decided to branch out into the superyacht market in 2008. Almost 50 years’ experience and the skills of its 300 strong in-house workforce coupled with the state of the art facilities in Naples, Messina and Malta make this young and dynamic Group a welcome newcomer on the Mediterranean superyacht scene.
The newly built and outfitted shed, with an overall length of 77 meters, net width of 17 meters and net height of 19 meters, is one further step in the Group’s long term strategy of establishing a leading network of construction, conversion and repair facilities in the heart of Mediterranean which to date occupy over 500,000 sqm.
