Simrad Yachting, a leader in the design and manufacture of world-class marine navigation, autopilots, communications and fishfinding systems, received two awards at the 2010 Newport International Boat Show. The Simrad NSE navigation system with 2.0 software was named “Best New Boating Product” and Simrad Yachting received the Five Star Award for its “Best in Show” booth display.
The Simrad NSE 2.0’s “Best New Product” award is part of the Newport International Boat Show’s Newport for New Products program sponsored by Cruising World, Sailing World and Motor Boating magazines. The program spotlights the best new boats and products for the coming model year that offer the most significant contributions to the experience of recreational boating. Judged by an independent panel of boating experts from the sponsoring magazines, the awards are based on innovation, value to the consumer and aesthetics.
The “Boating Products” category is new this year and represents a combination of a number of categories from previous years. With extensive competition to put an emphasis on true marine innovation, the Simrad NSE with recently added 2.0 software functionality won over product entries for boating operation including engines and engine parts, navigation, sail and sail rigging, as well as those specifically designed as safety devices. The Simrad NSE navigation system with 2.0 software functionality provides advanced functions including the world’s first full autopilot control and integration; support for Broadband Radar™ True Motion Radar, differentiating moving vessels from fixed objects; Lowrance StructureScan™ sonar imaging compatibility; and digital switching, monitoring and control of boat systems with BEP Marine’s CZone™.
“Judges were overwhelmed by all of the capabilities of the ‘Best New Boating Product’, the Simrad NSE 2.0,” said Sally Helme, publisher, Cruising World and Sailing World.
The Newport International Boat Show’s Five Star Award for “Best in Show” booth display is presented by Edson Marine. Simrad Yachting’s booth was judged against in-water displays – both sailboat and powerboat, land and booth displays. The judges select Five Star “Best in Show” award recipients for the best representation of the boating culture in promoting their products, exemplifying the best in design, layout, professionalism of staff, literature and accessibility, as well as elevating the entire industry.
“We are proud that the revolutionary Simrad NSE navigation system with 2.0 software was named Best New Product and that our booth was recognized as the ‘Best in Show’ display,” said Louis Chemi, chief operating officer, Navico Americas. “The overwhelming accolades Simrad Yachting continues to receive reinforces our drive to develop innovative marine electronics that improve the overall boating experience and enhancing on-the-water safety.”
