MDL Marinas is delighted to announce that planning consent has been approved today for the development of Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa at MDL’s Ocean Village Marina, the company will work on in a partnership with Nicolas James Group, owner of Harbour Hotels. A fabulous new luxury Hotel and Spa together with 82 waterfront apartments and beautiful new restaurants/retail premises will be constructed.
The 4/5* hotel will include 76 bedrooms, spa, gym and swimming pool, along with a luxurious restaurant and champagne roof terrace. The ground floor is proposed to include a large open plan lounge, restaurant and bar which will extend out onto a terrace at the end of the existing promontory. Set to be a welcome addition to the city, the hotel will have a number of flexible function rooms and is set to be a popular attraction during the annual Southampton Boat Show, offering additional restaurants and luxurious facilities in a beautiful waterfront setting.
Adjacent to the hotel, MDL Marinas and Harbour Hotels are looking to deliver a new retail and restaurant arcade at the front of the marina. Harbour Hotels also hopes to bring chef Alex Aitken to the site to deliver another high-end restaurant similar to the renowned Jetty at the Christchurch Harbour Hotel in Dorset.
Tenders for the construction are due within weeks, with work commencing as soon as possible.
Eamonn Feeney, Managing Director of MDL Marinas Group, commented: “We are delighted with today’s decision which will enable us to deliver the final stage of the master plan for Ocean Village Marina, and most importantly create a vibrant waterfront destination for the city.”
Chairman of Nicolas James Group, Nicolas Roach, added: “Southampton city lacks a five star hotel product. We intend to bring a luxury waterfront Hotel and Spa to the city, along with our award winning Jetty restaurant concept.”
