Following three exciting days of competing at the NZ Millennium Cup 2013, the 30-metre Southern Spars’ rigged sailing yacht Zefiro has become the new winner of the Millennium Cup. The second place went to last year’s winner, superyacht Silvertip.
The racing provided a real spectacle for viewers onshore, as the five massive gennakers graced the Waitamata Harbour and the Hauraki Gulf; the battle ground for the Millennium Cup.
With the racing finished, it was back into harbour and then on to the Gala Dinner celebrations at the Viaduct Events Centre and the all-important results and prize giving. MC Peter Montgomery thanked the owners and yachts for their participation and for making the regatta such a success.
Luxury yacht Zefiro had dominated with two wins and a second place and took first place overall. In second place was superyacht Silvertip, who also received the award for sportsmanship throughout the regatta. Third was sailing yacht Ohana, who in actual lapsed time was quickest round over the three races.
Janice of Wyoming yacht took fourth place, and an award for both the best exit, thanks to the water bomb offensive, and for her owners long term support of the New Zealand yachting industry. Sailing yacht Sea Toy took fifth place after a valiant effort throughout.
Southern Spars would like to congratulate all the yachts, owners, sponsors and most importantly the event organisers for putting together such a fantastic regatta.
Southern would also like to make special mention to the owner and crew of the newly launched Fitzroy Yachts built and Dubois designed 50m superyacht Ohana for obtaining a very impressive third in her debut regatta. The boat performed as expected and will be one to look out for in the future bucket races.
All of the yachts competing in the NZ Millennium Cup 2013 were powered by Southern Spars’ rigs.
