Southern Wind is pleased to announce the delivery of 82′ sailing yacht AMMONITE. The ceremony has taken place in the presence of the proud owner and his wife in Cape Town in South Africa while the stunning sunset and a company of friendly sea lions provided a perfect backdrop.
Ammonite’s Australian owner, Marcus Blackmore, is a seasoned sailor and a keen Dragon Sailor. For both racing and cruising, the owner desired a yacht with a “sexy body and a highly competitive soul”.
Following his first voyage aboard AMMONITE, the owner stated: “I’ve just had my first sail on board of Ammonite in Cape Town: The Southern Wind Shipyard have been outstanding; they have gone out of their way to satisfy our ‘out of the norm’ requirements. My yacht is essentially a highly customised production sailing yacht.”
The vessel is now prepared for her maiden voyage of 7000 miles from Cape Town to Sardinia in Italy, where AMMONITE will be racing in the 2016 Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta in Porto Cervo on the Costa Smeralda in June. Following this race, she is planning on racing at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in September.
AMMONITE will conclude her stay in the Mediterranean with her appearance at the bespoke Monaco Yacht Show in September, following which she will sail to the Caribbean together with the ARC fleet to continue competing in the prestigious Caribbean regatta circuit.
