Today South African shipyard Southern Wind has announced the launch of the much-anticipated sailing yacht AMMONITE, the third SW96 hull, from its facilities in Cape Town.
Her new Owner, Marcus Blackmore is a repeat client and ambassador of the shipyard who owned an SW82 model by the same name until it was sold in late 2019.
The latest incarnation of AMMONITE is built with a carbon fibre hull and superstructure to an exterior design by Farr Yacht Design and differs from the previous two hulls by having a tender garage and two side lazarettes for a 3.95m/12.9ft tender.
The interiors are the work of Nauta Design and include three en-suite cabins to sleep up to 6 guests: 1 Master suite, 1 twin cabin forward to port that can be converted into a double bunk cabin, plus an additional guest cabin. The crew accommodation consists of a Captain’s cabin, a double bunk cabin to port and a starboard Pullman bunk cabin.
S/Y AMMONITE is due for delivery this September when she will cruise on to New Zealand to defend her title on the Millennium Cup. Future plans include competing in the Transpacific Yacht Race 2022 when she will have the opportunity to visit destinations in Southeast Asia or Alaska.
