Just as the first day, the second day of the Southern Wind Trophy was marked by excitement, both on board and ashore. A constant wind of 15-18 knots from North West has guided the sailing super yachts in a zigzag route amongst some of the most beautiful islands of the La Maddalena archipelago, also renowned as a spectacular Sardinia yacht charter vacation destination.
The route included two long legs upwind followed by a turning point in front of Spargi Island and a final with gennaker hoisted.
Excellent performance for sailing yacht Grande Orazio, leading the fleet along the whole route, gaining the top of both rankings: SWS and C class.
The owner, Mr Massimiliano Florio, doesn’t deny his enthusiasm for the triumphal beginning: ”Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta is a new event for me, as I always took part to different ones, as Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, where all the yachts are leaving at the same time. This is a completely different regatta as the staggered starting requires a different strategy and we have to pay careful attention to the distances”.
To confirm the very good condition of Cape Arrow yacht‘s crew, a winning strategy of breathtaking tackings very near the coast has led the yacht to the second place in the ranking of SWS Trophy.
To crown it all, after such an exciting regatta, the owners, crew members and all SWS big family guests turned up in Poltu Quatu for a special meeting: the Southern Wind Dinner Party.
During the Dinner, Mr Andrea Micheli, Sales Manager of the company, took the opportunity to officially introduce the new Southern Wind Sailing Academy: ”this is the first boutique sailing school specifically designed for owners, but devoted for all the passionate yachtsmen, being them our owners, their children, their friends, their professional or amateur crew” affirmed him with great satisfaction.
This special night gave to Mr Willy Persico, SWS’ founder and CEO, the opportunity to award a very special prize to the enthusiast owner of SW Feelin’Good for his perfect interpretation of SWS yachts bluewater soul: 14.000 miles sailed in just 5 months.
