Dutch superyacht builder Royal Huisman is currently building a 48.97m (160.66 ft) sailing yacht called The Spirit of Tradition Ketch (SoT). The yacht offers strong design references to the early working sailors like the pilot cutter and the Brixham Trawler.
At 49m on deck (54m with bowsprit), The Spirit of Tradition Ketch (SoT) combines classic traditional lines including plumb bow and elegant counter stern with a lightweight construction for high performance sailing and fast passage making. The Spirit of Tradition Ketch (SoT) sailing yacht features naval architecture and styling by Gerard Dykstra & Partners and is in build at the Royal Huisman Shipyard. A classic and mellow interior will be developed by the Rhoades Young Design office, while Jens Cornelsen will serve as the owner’s project manager.
The Spirit of Tradition Ketch lines drawn by Gerard Dykstra and Partners include sympathetic period features such as gentle sheer, open deck space, neatly-proportioned deckhouses and skylights above the waterline, with a modern, easily driven hull shape below. The canoe underbody sports a fully-ballasted lifting keel, deep carbon spade rudder and low wetted-surface areas.
The sailing yacht features an Alustar hull, tall carbon spars and comprehensive sailplan. She will be a powerful, lightweight yacht whose sea keeping and performance will be complemented by style, comfort and luxurious amenities. Rhoades Young Design will draw upon classic references and traditional craftsmanship for a well-appointed interior.
The Spirit of Tradition Ketch is scheduled for delivery in 2012
