Spirit Yachts has commenced outfitting the interior for its flagship sailing yacht, SPIRIT 111 as bespoke furniture is created for the salon before the fitting of the coach roof.
33.9m/111ft sailing yacht SPIRIT 111 will replace the Suffolk-based shipyard’s 30.7m/100.6ft GAIA (launched in 2007) as its largest hull to date. The company’s head designer Sean McMillan produced her exterior lines, while the interiors are the work of Rhoades Young and form natural flowing lines with cabins that feature floating cocoon beds made from steamed tapered timbers.
The design has taken into account environmental considerations as the 30-year-old client wishes to spend extended periods of time on board. The custom carbon rig, Lewmar hydraulic system and comprehensive OneSails 4T40 sail wardrobe come together to ensure excellent performance.
The 160kw Torqeedo electric propulsion system produces just under 11 knots and works in conjunction with four BMW i3 lithium battery banks, which can be recharged while under sail. Two 25kw back-up generators are also installed to recharge the battery banks as required.
Constructed from epoxy wood with a stainless steel space frame, S/Y SPIRIT 111 is due for completion in the summer of 2019.
