A total number of six MCM yachts participated in the 2014 St Barths Bucket Regatta, achieving two overall wins. MCM vessels included four that MCM managed the construction of – Adele, Lady B, sailing yacht Marie and superyacht Nilaya – and two under yacht management – Blue Too and charter yacht Wavelength.
Luxury yacht Marie, built by Vitters, won the Elegantes class and overall honours from among all classes. MCM’s Peter Wilson was racing aboard Marie serving as her safety officer.
40 metres is the minimum distance under the rules that yachts must maintain between each other, to avoid collisions, and Wilson confirmed that they were “40.1 metres” apart at the finish! Safety officers have a big say in the strategy and tactical decisions of the afterguard, decisions often having to be made very quickly. “We got in the traffic of the Perinis and that was an enormous part of our strategic plan for what happened next”, said Wilson, explaining how they pushed a rival, Unfurled yacht, into the bad air of a Perini.
Luxury yacht Nilaya, whose construction management was overseen by MCM’s Nigel Ingram, won the Gazelles class overall. MCM’s Mike Drake was aboard Wavelength and Mark Dauplaise superyacht Lady B.
MCM has managed the construction of over 70 yachts in the last 26 years.
