The Internationally acclaimed Grammy-award winning Wyclef Jean is slated to headline the 2011 St. Maarten Heineken Regatta!
Anyone who has seen a Wyclef Jean show knows the high energy levels and positive vibes that come along with it, and therefore the organizers of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta are extremely excited to feature Wyclef Jean, during one of the biggest music events in the Caribbean! This free performance will close the 31st St. Maarten Heineken Regatta on Sunday March 6th, 2011 on Kim Sha beach.
Wyclef first gained fame as part of the very popular group The Fugees, after which he went solo in the late 90’s. He has teamed up with many of the world’s most well known artists, and has made significant musical contributions crossing between genres.
In the past year, he has been in the news as he initiated a run in Haiti’s presidential elections, in a bid to help improve life for residents. Although his political candidature was eventually denied, he continues with great success to raise awareness for the country, which suffered a major disaster just over a year ago. Through his foundation, Yele Haiti, he also brings financial support to the island. The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, for one, is pleased that he is continuing to perform his world famous live show.
Wyclef has a large repetoire of well-known songs which he will perform at the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta. Heineken is sure that Sailors, visitors and locals alike will enjoy the fantastic and vibrant show. Nila Rambhadjan, Heineken Marketing Manager on St. Maarten adds “If you’re coming to the show, get ready for excitement! And make sure you know at least this Haitian Creole phrase: “Sak Pasé!”, as Wyclef and his crew will be asking the crowd “What’s up?” in the Haitian language.
St Maarten will be painted green once again, and with a Headliner like Wyclef, a great time is assured for everyone – especially with a nice cold Heineken in your hand, and your toes in the warm sand.
