The inaugural Selene Yachts Rendez-vous in Europe was held from 19 to 23 July, 2013. Eight Selene trawlers with owners from across Europe attended this event. Moreover, the event hosted all the European dealers as well as the acclaimed Dutch luxury yacht designer Guido de Groot, who is responsible for drawing the larger Selene yacht models.
Howard Chen, owner of the Selene yard, also travelled from China especially for the occasion. The Rendez-vous was organised in cooperation with Marina Punat on the island of Krk in Croatia.
Marina Punat has 850 berths spread over eleven piers. The largest berths are for yachts of up to 45 metres with a maximum draught of three metres. Three additional piers under construction will soon increase capacity by 150 berths. The marina features many facilities, such as restaurants, shops, a supermarket and a hotel. Visitors and berth holders can also make use of the comprehensive services provided by Shipyard Punat, a highly experienced yard founded in 1922.
The extensive facilities and high level of service at Marina Punat were essential to the success of this first Selene Yachts Rendez-vous in Europe. All the activities at the event were organised by the marina’s employees down to the last detail. The Selene Yachts owners were treated to the highest level of Croatian hospitality.
Several dinners were organised in the distinctive marina restaurant. Many different local specialties were served accompanied by local music. The Selene trawlers were moored right next to the restaurant, creating a real Selene Yachts experience in a Mediterranean ambiance.
Various presentations were held on topics such as Wesmar stabilisers, the use of life rafts and the operation of EPIRBs. Albert Gerritsma of Selene Yachts Northern Europe gave a presentation on future plans and developments within Selene Yachts Europe. One of the owners talked about sailing in his native land of New Caledonia. And the presentation by Guido de Groot was also very interesting: He talked about his work as a designer, with special attention for the philosophy behind the new larger Selene Yachts Ocean Explorer models.
In addition to owners and international dealers, there were also various people interested in Selene Yachts at the event. It was an excellent opportunity to become acquainted with the trawlers, meet the owners and hear about their experiences. Ten journalists from a range of European magazines also attended the event.
The journalists were invited by Marina Punat to stay in hotels such as picturesque hotel Kanajt. Located on the grounds of the marina, this hotel is part of its facilities. It affords a beautiful view over the bay of Punat and the marina and shipyard.
During one of the days of the Rendez-vous, a trip was organised for all the participating Selene trawlers to go out on the water together. This gave the journalists the opportunity to experience the yachts and write articles about them. The trawlers anchored in the town of Stara Baška.
Selene Yachts Europe can look back on a successful Rendez-vous and is grateful to Marina Punat for the professional organisation of the event. Selene Yachts Europe now intends to organise a Rendez-vous every year.
