Based in Aix-en-Provence, France, British Designer Alex McDiarmid is proud to introduce his latest SuperSports yacht The TWO50 concept. Inspiration is once again diverse and of a non-nautical philosophy, including Architecture, Origami, Sculpture, as well as Car design. The result is the breath-taking mega yacht The TWO50 concept, exploring and further developing the design direction of the striking luxury yacht The ONE50 concept, created in 2010 that helped launch the studio in 2011.
The TWO50:
“The devil is in the detail”
Architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (1886–1969) by The New York Times in Mies’ 1969 obituary
The TWO50 yacht concept again sees a fresh thinking and original approach to the styling of a 250′ / 76m SuperSports Yacht. The overall styling makes this yacht stand out as there is nothing like it around.
McDiarmid was adamant about keeping a classic bow for at least one of the proposed profiles but wanted to push the boundaries with the styling.
Design Thinking: “Designed to Inspire”
The aim was to create a very modern, avant-garde looking yacht with elegant exterior lines while maintaining good visual proportion and volume.
The bold, sculptural lines and forms of the exterior define the two main features of this developing design philosophy/language: dynamism and simplicity, visually harmonized.
The unique ‘wrap around’ glazing design aft on both the main and owner’s decks reinforce the powerful overall exterior styling. Something new and “Moving the Game On”.
Three bows including classic, reverse and axe show possible design directions.
The foredeck features a large atrium glazing area for maximum daylight whilst aboard. This could also form a Bimini covered lounge area.
A helicopter deck is located on the foredeck or alternatively aft on the upper deck.
All in all a very distinct and modern yacht design language for the discerning owner looking to make a statement.
