The Knight & Carver Yacht Center in the US have taken delivery of the superyacht dry dock ‘Diligence’ for its refit and repair operations in San Diego, California.
The 4,000-tonne capacity superyacht dry dock ‘Diligence’ guided by a small armada of tugboats and the San Diego Port Pilots, made its way along San Diego Bay on the 30th of June. The superyacht dry dock ‘Diligence’ can accommodate yachts of up to 122m (400ft) in length 30m (100ft) in width and 19m (63ft) in height making it the largest yacht-friendly dry dock on the US west coast — and one of the largest in the country.
“This is a huge milestone for our company, especially for all of our skilled marine craftsmen who patiently waited more than a year for this day to become a reality,” says Michael O’Leary, Knight & Carver’s president and CEO. “Now we’ll be able to attract, fully service and lift out the world’s largest and most luxurious megayachts, commercial vessels along with large government agency vessels.”
Knight & Carver will operate the dry dock under an exclusive, long-term lease arrangement with locally based finance group Diligence & Company LLC, along with investment partner Fraser’s Services, a San Diego-based boat repair firm.
Full dry-dock operations are expected to begin on August 15.
Knight & Carver has already secured a commitment for a significant superyacht refit project scheduled for August and is hoping to hire another 100-plus workers over the next few months once the dry dock is under full operation.
