The SW 94 Sailing yacht Kiboko built by Southern Wind was awarded the ‘best sailing yacht over 24 mt’ at the Nautical Design Awards 2011. Yacht & Sail magazine editor in chief Andrea Brambilla and ADI ( Associazione per il Disegno Industriale) President Luisa Bocchietto announced the winners of the second edition of this prestigious Award on the 20th of October in Milan, Italy.
“The Jury appreciated the general well balanced completion, both from the interior and the exterior point of view. The product, that shows a maniacal care to details, is the expression of a design which is never a style exercise. The project is an excellent example of concept and construction of a yacht devoted to “real” navigation; a target not so frequently achieved by other yachts of similar size and so well finished.”
While CEO of Southern Wind Willy Persico collected the prize at Sevenstars Hotel gala dinner in Milan, in Johannesburg, on the same day, Marco Alberti, General Manager of the yard, was taking part in another renowned event, the Business Excellence Award, organized by the Italian-South African Chamber of Trade and Industries, where he received the honorary Chairperson’s special award.
Yacht Kiboko was launched in Cape town, South Africa at the end of 2010 and is Southern Wind Shipyard’s first SW 94 Sailing yacht. The custom performance cruiser features naval architecture (hull lines, sail plan and appendages design) by Reichel Pugh Yacht Design with general arrangement, exterior styling and interior design by Nauta Yacht Design.
Built as a cruiser / racer, the SW 94 yacht Kiboko is a sporty and aggressive yacht that features a luxurious and bright interior and clean deck spaces, making S/Y Kiboko ideal for chartering or for private use as well as racing.
Southern Wind sailing yacht Kiboko was built using advanced composite sandwich construction, renowned for lightness and stiffness, she is RINA classed with structural engineering by High Modulus.
