Patrick Hemp has become a new member of the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA) Secretariat. He has been appointed as Technical Manager with immediate effect, representing ICOMIA on technical legislative and standardisation issues, covering recreational craft, restricted range superyachts, as well as equipment, comprisign marine engines.
Patrick, a naval architect with almost 20- years’ project management and design experience, is from Cape Town, South Africa with dual UK citizenship.
Having started off working full-time as professional crew on board privately owned superyachts, Patrick developed a passion for design and in June 2004 graduated from The Landing School Yacht Design Programme in Maine, US, and it was here he learnt the intricacies of yacht design as well as conforming to industry standards.
Patrick’s sailing highlights include crewing on the J Class charter yacht Endeavour for two and a half years and racing her in the Americas Cup Jubilee; taking superyacht Kentra (a Fife) down to Cape Horn/Falklands and racing on classic yachts like Altair yacht and Shenandoah yacht in the Mediterranean circuit.
