The Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta 2010 will be held in the enchanting village of Porto Cervo on the northern coast of Sardinia, hosted by the exclusive Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. The regatta will consists of four days of exhilarating superyacht racing around the idyllic turquoise waters of the Costa Smeralda in the Western Mediterranean.
The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda was established in 1967 by His Highness the Aga Khan and a small group of founding members with the intention of bringing together nautical sports enthusiasts and sea lovers, and promoting and organizing artistic, cultural and scientific initiatives.
The Yacht Club overlooks Piazza Azzurra and dominates the New Marina. The Clubhouse is considered one of the most prestigious and beautifully functional structures of its kind and provides a brilliant venue with breathtaking views of the harbour.
The Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta is open to modern and classic sailing yachts 24 metres and above. A collection of the finest racing superyachts on the water will compete under IRC rating system for the coveted Silver Trophy.
Courses and classes will be set to accommodate all entries across the fleet enabling the owners to enjoy their own yacht to its full purpose and potential. There will be a Pursuit Start for the Cruising Class and a Fleet Start for the Performance Class.
The fleet of sailing yachts registered so far will make for exciting competition and includes the winner of last year’s regatta – the Royal Huisman’s 32 m sailing yacht GLISS, designed by Philippe Briand. The luxury sailing yacht GLISS will return this year to defend her title. S/Y GLISS was also the overall winner of the Horus Superyacht Cup in Palma 2009.
