May 2017 begins with some fantastic news coming from Norway: billionaire Kjell Inge Røkke commissions the 181.60-metre Research Expedition Vessel (REV) to be built by a part of the Fincantieri Group, VARD shipyard. This superyacht project was designed by acclaimed Espen Oeino and is due to be completed in 2020.
It is now known that the superyacht construction will take place in Romania and Norway, in between which REV will be transferred for various stages of development.
The idea behind the project belongs to its owner in collaboration with Aker BioMarine and WWF of Norway: the new 182m REV will surely contribute to research of the marine life. This superyacht will be offered for global expeditions, as well as private charters.
Built to the highest standards and providing total luxury to her guests, REV will be able to accommodate 36 charter guests and a crew of 54. The funds raised from private charters will go towards marine research programs.
Fully equipped modern laboratories, research systems, an auditorium, two helipads and a hangar for underwater vehicles add to fantastic features of this massive vessel. In addition, REV will be a very eco-friendly yacht. Over 60 scientists and 40 crew will be able to go on a global research expedition once the vessel is built and delivered. REV is expected to have 114 days of full autonomy.
Take a closer look at REV:
Upon delivery, REV will become the largest superyacht in the world. She will be 1.60 meters longer than the 180-metre mega yacht Azzam.
